Petra Desert Marathon is a marathon and ultra half marathon (22.3 km) that took place for the first time on Saturday, September 26, 2009. The race is run in and around the ancient city of Petra in Jordan.Petra was the capital of the Nabataean dynasty at the time of Christ and lies hidden among the rugged cliffs of the Jordanian desert. The ancient city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Petra Marathon is a part of the extreme marathon series hosted by Adventure Marathon. 

The course of the race is more challenging than average marathons because of the many steep ascents and descents.The Petra Desert Marathon is a challenging adventure marathon set in the beautiful desert region of Jordan. Starting in the ancient city of Petra, the route takes runners on a remarkable route through the area surrounding Petra. From the lunar-like mountain landscape to the arid desert, runners navigate challenging terrain in the dry, desert heat.The Petra Desert Marathon is a hilly course with an ascent of roughly 1,200m and a descent of 1,100m.

Following a five-year hiatus, the SODIC Charity Run will return in exactly three months, organised by The TriFactory and in support of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation. Featuring three distances, a 10K Race, 5K Race, and 3K Fun Run, the SODIC Charity Run is perfect for the whole family and suitable for runners of all ages and abilities. In addition to the fantastic destination and fast & flat race course, The TriFactory will be operating the MYLAPS timing system for the 10K Race and the 5K Race, which automatically times every single runner in the race. This is the same system that is used at the Olympic Games. Like all of The TriFactory’s major sports events, the SODIC Charity Run will fall under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth & Sports and the supervision of the Egyptian Athletics Federation, ensuring that it is organised to international standards.

The Oslo Marathon is an annual marathon that takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October. There are four distances; marathon, half-marathon, 10 and 3 km.The track goes along the seaside of Oslofjord. It is very flat, and competitors in the marathon run it twice with start and finish at the Town Hall Square.

The distances one can participate in is 3 km, 10 for Grete, half marathon and marathon. Also, there will be children’s activity day and Children’s marathon (500m), according to organizers.G-Sport requires that national sponsorships should be “People and parties” and that’s Danske Bank Oslo Marathon, with participation increase of over 50% from last year – and aim that 25,000 will be running this year!

The Berlin Marathon is recognized as one of the most famous races across the globe with thousands of spectators cheering up all running enthusiasts in the historical capital of Germany.
Due to the flat nature of the course the Berlin Marathon is an excellent choice not only for beginners but also for those who want to set their personal best or even those who want to set a world record.

Lidingöloppet is the world’s largest terrain race and organized on the island of Lidingö in Stockholm since 1965. The race is part of “A Swedish Classic Circuit” and is held last weekend in September each year.

TCS Lidingöloppet is without doubt a challenge for most people, irrespective of which distance you choose to run. Whether you want to improve your result from last year, run faster than your neighbour, take your first steps in jogging or even try the Little Lidingöloppet for the first time, our long experience tells us that this could be your biggest challenge so far. The main category is 30 km, but there are categories for all ages and many different distances.

The Chicago Marathon, officially called the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, is the pinnacle event for novice to elite runners. Chicago, a city like no other, is a big city with an even bigger heart. Considered a flat and fast course; it is one of the big-5 marathons that comprise the Wold Marathon Majors series. Starting with just 4,200 runners when it began in 1977, it has grown to over 45,000 in just a little over three decades. The Midwestern spectators are something that makes this marathon amazing, as is the excitement in the air of the city, which comes alive to cheer marathoners to the finish line.

El Gouna Half Marathon is the Red Sea’s premier running event, taking place annually at Egypt’s most beautiful coastal town: El Gouna! ​

Members of the NYRR have priority, gaining entry by meeting qualifications, they are guaranteed a spot, or they can obtain a nomination via an official running club affiliate.

It may be a surprise that a marathon on a small, tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is among the ten largest marathon races in the world. But with its 25,000 annual runners the Honolulu Marathon really is up there with the big ones such as Boston, New York, Chicago and London.The first Honolulu Marathon appeared in 1973 with 151 finishers, and already in this inaugural race, the dream was to be on par with the famous Boston Marathon one day. Especially runners from Japan contribute to the field making it large enough to compete with Boston and making up more than 60 percent of the total.

The Honolulu runners will end their marathon in Kapiolani Park near the volcanic crater, Diamond Head. Kapiolani Park was the state’s first public park and it remains one of the most frequented recreational areas in the city. On race day the park is transformed to a joyful festival with an award ceremony, post-race malasadas (a Portuguese donut) and nearly 50,000 spectators celebrating the tired but euphoric finishers.The course is relatively flat with a large part of it following the magnificent Pacific coastline. 

A climb occurs at Diamond Head, which runners pass twice along the way. The highest point is 38m above sea level. The early 5am start with fireworks is spectacular and cool. There is no time limit and the last finisher usually comes in long after most runners have had time to cool down in the pacific ocean and ordered a well deserved Mai-Tai. 

The traditional Sports Expo lasts three days attracting thousands of visitors and vendors. Friday before race day a concert/luau with Hawaiian music, dance show and the mandatory carbo-loading dinner are held to get everybody in the mood for Sunday’s run. 

For those not up to a full 42.2km, there is a 10km option which starts at the same time as the marathon. 

The Kalakaua Merrie Mile is a one mile race in Waikiki on the day before the marathon.
