The Palestine Marathon is an international running event that aims to build a strong running culture in Palestine while promoting cultural exchange, solidarity, and global awareness of Palestinian life. Bringing together thousands of local and international runners, the marathon highlights Palestinian culture, hospitality, and everyday realities, while contributing to the local economy and tourism sector. Since its early years, the event has grown rapidly, with participation rising to over 8,000 runners, nearly half of them women, and strong international representation. Officially recognized by the IAAF and AIMS, the marathon follows a unique 42.195 km course starting from Bethlehem’s Old City, passing through refugee camps and alongside the Wall, offering runners a challenging and unforgettable route. Beyond sport, the Palestine Marathon carries a powerful message about the right to freedom of movement. By running through spaces shaped by checkpoints and barriers, participants symbolically assert a fundamental human right that remains severely restricted for Palestinians. The event also serves as a platform for advocacy, with runners supporting causes related to human rights, women, children, and people with disabilities. Held under the auspices of Palestinian institutions and supported by a wide network of local and international partners, the marathon provides participants from around the world with a meaningful sporting experience and a deeper understanding of Palestinian history, resilience, and community.
